Geely Xingyue S

2026-10-03 12:30:01

Model Overview

The Xingyue S is a compact coupe SUV built on Geely’s CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform, developed as a high-performance spin-off of the standard Xingyue. Officially launched on 10 July 2021, the "S" suffix highlights its sharper, sportier positioning aimed squarely at younger drivers seeking distinct styling and an engaging driving experience.

Geely offered the Xingyue S in 4 variants with an official price tag ranging from RM135,700 to RM171,700, establishing it as one of the few 2.0T SUVs in the RM150,000 price bracket to combine striking design with genuine performance. Positioned under Geely’s flagship "China Star" series, the Xingyue S, alongside the Xingrui (Preface) and Xingyue L (Monjaro), formed Geely’s comprehensive model offensive spanning sedans, SUVs, ICEs, and new energy vehicles.

Design Language

The Xingyue S retains the sleek, sloping fastback coupe SUV silhouette of the standard model while introducing bespoke sporty accents across the exterior and cabin to emphasise its performance credentials. Up front, it features Geely’s signature corporate face enhanced with blacked-out trims, while the side profile stands out with a sweeping roofline tapering into the rear to create a hunkered-down, aggressive stance. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,605 mm long, 1,878 mm wide, and 1,643 mm tall, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase, slotting neatly into the C-segment SUV category.

Styling-wise, the Xingyue S sports distinctive visual highlights to underscore its athletic nature. Vibrant "Electric Green" accents along the lower door panels, gloss black alloy wheels, darkened window trim, and quad exhaust tips at the rear lend it a purposeful, track-inspired aesthetic. Buyers can choose from 18-, 19-, and 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, further elevating its road presence.

The cabin adopts a tech-forward, driver-centric cockpit finished predominantly in black, with generous applications of suede upholstery throughout. The centrepiece is a set of S-grade high-performance sports seats featuring embroidered CMA lettering on the seatbacks, offering excellent lateral bolstering during spirited cornering. The overall interior trim and material selection strike a seamless balance between sportiness and upmarket refinement.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the bonnet lies the Xingyue S’s biggest highlight: a Volvo Drive-E-derived 2.0TD turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, available in two states of tune across the variant lineup.

  • 2.0TD High-Output Version: Delivering 175 kW (238 PS) and 350 Nm of peak torque, this unit is mated to an Aisin 8-speed automatic transmission (8AT) and a BorgWarner on-demand all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. It completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 6.8 seconds, with an NEDC rated fuel consumption of 7.5 L/100 km.

  • 2.0TD Low-Output Version: Outputs 140 kW (190 PS) and 300 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) driving the front wheels (FWD). The 0-100 km/h century sprint is achieved in roughly 7.2 seconds, with an NEDC rated fuel economy of 6.8 L/100 km.

Offering a 2.0-litre turbo mill as standard across all trims gave the Xingyue S a decisive performance edge over rivals in its segment.

Chassis and Handling

Underpinned by the CMA platform, the Xingyue S boasts solid dynamic fundamentals. It rides on an all-round independent suspension setup comprising front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link arrangement, delivering sharp turn-in and commendable cornering composure. To further hone steering accuracy, lightweight aluminium steering knuckles are fitted alongside class-leading suspension travel (190 mm front, 219 mm rear), effectively maximising mechanical grip and overall chassis stability.

On the road, the chassis delivers an adept balance between dynamic responsiveness and everyday ride comfort. Over undulations and speed breakers, the dampers settle body movements briskly with minimal rebound, exhibiting a reassuringly solid, Continental-flavoured ride quality. The flagship AWD variant features selectable drive modes—while standard 2WD models get Sport, Eco, and Comfort, the AWD version adds Off-road and Snow modes for broader terrain capability.

Cockpit and Features

Inside, the Xingyue S features an immersive intelligent cabin centered around a multi-screen interconnected layout. Higher-spec grades come equipped with a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster alongside a 12.3-inch HD infotainment touchscreen, while the range-topper adds a 9-inch full-colour head-up display (HUD), enabling seamless three-screen interaction.

The infotainment suite is comprehensive, offering GPS navigation, voice command (for climate control, multimedia, etc.), in-car Wi-Fi, and 4G connectivity, backed by full-vehicle FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air) capability that allows remote updates for various electronic modules. Furthermore, the onboard FACE ID system enables personalised profile settings while continuously monitoring driver attentiveness and fatigue, chiming in with alerts when necessary to balance convenience and safety.

Comfort creature comforts are equally generous. Depending on the spec, equipment includes a Qi wireless smartphone charger, hands-free powered tailgate, tilt-and-slide panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control with an AQS (Air Quality System) and negative-ion air purifier, as well as a premium BOSE sound system, delivering a luxury-tier cabin ambience.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

Passive safety is backed by the CMA platform's high-rigidity structure, incorporating over 78% high-strength steel across the shell and chassis. Active safety hardware includes a Bosch 9.3 Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) integrated with Roll Movement Intervention (RMI) to maintain vehicle composure during sudden evasive manoeuvres.

On the active driver assistance front, the Xingyue S offers Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities. The Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) suite packages full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) to ease driver fatigue on highway commutes. Other standard driver aids include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Blind Spot Detection (BSD). Higher variants also gain a 360-degree surround-view camera with a transparent chassis function, making parking and tight manoeuvring effortless.

Market Performance and Reception

As part of the flagship "China Star" lineup, the Xingyue S played a pivotal role in pushing Geely upmarket. Early in its lifecycle, combined monthly sales of the Xingyue S, Xingrui, and Xingyue L breached the 25,000-unit mark, carving out a formidable market presence. However, as Geely accelerated its pivot toward new energy vehicles (NEVs) and sibling models like the Xingyue L commanded mainstream demand, the Xingyue S saw its commercial spotlight gradually taper off.

Owner sentiment has been largely positive, with praise directed at the punchy 2.0T powertrain, planted chassis dynamics, head-turning coupe SUV profile, and upscale cabin appointments. Tech-savvy drivers also appreciate the convenience of its FOTA software updates. On the flip side, some owners have noted that the sloping roofline slightly compromises rear headroom, while certain ADAS interventions can feel overly intrusive. Overall, the Xingyue S stood out as a compelling, value-packed proposition for buyers looking for distinct styling paired with genuine performance and refinement.
